We’re just popping in with you, our Skin Actives family, to get a sense of how you are progressing with the goals that you set for yourself at the top of the month. Where are you at, how are you doing?
\r\n\r\nA lot of people choose to focus January on getting in shape. I mean, why wouldn’t you? When January rolls around, you have to face the results of two months spent eating rich food, sweet treats and washing it down with heavy drink.
\r\n\r\nBut now we have to live with the outcome of all that conviviality. Our clothes may feel tighter. We may be trying to hide that under a sweatshirt. It’s still cold out and the nights are still long. But before you know it, spring will be here, then summer! You’ll be going through your closet looking for your shorts and your swimsuit. So, if you want to enjoy the payoff of hard work then, you are going to have to embrace it now!
\r\n\r\nSkin health and the overall health of your body are directly connected.
\r\nThis may seem like an overly simplistic observation, but sometimes we all fall into the trap of treating our bodies like independent parts, rather than an interconnected whole. Here is some advice for everyone who is starting off (or resuming) a fitness journey this year; we think you’ll find that these tips are just as good for your skin as for your muscles and your mind.
\r\n- \r\n
- Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep. This might seem like common sense, but it’s worth a reminder. In sleep studies, it’s been shown that people are inclined to think that they are operating at their peak when they are deprived of sleep, but their performance actually suffers. To take care of your health, try and get 8 hours of sleep a night. Remember that 7 is considered by many health care professionals to be a minimum. \r\n\r\n
- Eat healthy food. Just because food is healthy, doesn’t mean it has to taste bad or be bland. Find ways to increase your protein intake and balance it against your intake of carbs and fats. If you are trying to lose weight, you are going to be looking to create a calorie deficit based on the food you are eating, compared against the calories you are expending. Make this a sustainable cut! Also, you are going to need those calories to build muscle, so don’t overdo it! \r\n\r\n
- Find a workout that challenges your body, but doesn’t overwhelm your willpower. It’s easy to go full throttle for the first couple of days in your new workout routine. But then you hit a wall. Your body is recovering from the new stressors you’ve placed on it, and that can take time! When planning your new routine, make sure it’s something that you can do not only on a daily basis physically, but that you have the mental determination to recommit yourself to day after day, week after week. If you’ve already started and are feeling overwhelmed: it’s better to scale down than to quit! \r\n\r\n
- Battle soreness head on. The feeling of soreness that you experience as part of working out is difficult and frustrating, but it’s also important! When you are working yourself incrementally harder than you are accustomed to, it creates micro-tears in the fibers that constitute your muscles. These tears get washed in lactic acid created by your body which gets interpreted by your nervous system as the pain of soreness. Being sore is good, it shows that you are building new muscle! But that doesn’t make the experience any easier. You can combat soreness with some stretching, or with Skin Actives brand new Workout Relief Cream with Hemp Extract.
